Testimonials

”The Training Centre is providing quality refresher first aid training for the custody centres of the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary. This has been instrumental in maintaining an excellent skill level for staff in this difficult working environment.”Sgt Mike Griffin, Unit Manager in HR Operations Training, Devon & Cornwall Police

“The Training Centre organized First Aid Training for the learners on the Isles of Scilly. Learner feedback was very positive, they found the course innovative. From the same feedback, interest was shown for other courses which the Training Centre might be able to provide in the future. From an administrative point, it was a pleasure working with the Training Centre, evidence was freely available to ensure no double funding issues arose. Ofsted were present for one session, and they spoke highly of the provision. So our grateful thanks for enabling us to provide our learners with such a professional experience.”
Lesley Hopkins, Lifelong Learning Centre, Isles of Scilly

Course descriptions

RLSS National Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NBLQ)

This course which is operated in Cornwall by the National Lifeguard Training Centre is a professional qualification regulated by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). Successful trainees will be certified to work as lifeguards on British beaches as well as many other countries worldwide. This qualification is also necessary to work as a surf instructor and is seen as a stepping stone to other careers in outdoor pursuits, rescue management and emergency services.

With two water sessions each day interspersed by first aid/ theory sessions this is an intense course. Prior to attending, it is strongly recommended that candidates are capable of swimming at least 100m on their front and 100m on their back. It is a prerequisite of the course that they are able to swim 400m in a swimming pool in less than eight minutes.

Candidates should also be familiar with a surf environment, be able to surface dive to a depth of two metres, tread water for two minutes and climb out of deep water unaided and without the use of steps.

We are also reintroducing the 3-day refresher course to our list. Candidates must hold an NBLQ qualification that is no more than 28 days out of date.
