Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF)

£55 per person plus vat (includes tea/ coffee and certification)

The 1-day OFQUAL regulated Emergency First Aid at Work course teaches the basics of first aid assessment and treatment in the workplace so that casualties can be looked after safely until professional emergency care arrives.

 What will I be doing on the course?

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

• understand the role of the first-aider including reference to:
   - the importance of preventing cross infection
   - the need for recording incidents and actions
   - use of available equipment
• assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and
• effectively in an emergency
• administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
• administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
• administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)

Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF)

£195 per person plus vat (includes tea/ coffee and certification

This 3-day First Aid at Work course has been developed in conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and regulated by OFQUAL to provide employees of companies and organisations with the first aid skills necessary to deal with a range of injuries and potentially life-threatening situations. It is essential that organisations of a certain size have relevant trained first aiders among their staff.

 What will I be doing on the course?

• learning to provide emergency first aid at work – see course description above.
• learning to administer first aid to a casualty with:
  - injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  - chest injuries – burns and scalds – eye injuries – sudden poisoning – anaphylactic shock
• learning to recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid
(including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)

Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work with Sport (QCF)

In addition to the Basic Life Support and treatment elements of the 1-day first aid course, the Sports First Aid course also provides sporting individuals, managers or coaches with knowledge on how to treat common sporting injuries those who are injured whilst playing sport.

What will I be doing on the course?
You will learn the core skills required to deal with life threatening illnesses and injuries in a sporting environment. In addition to this, you will be shown how Paediatric Basic Life Support is carried out along with the treatment of common sports injuries to include soft tissue, head, neck and spinal injuries.

SPECIALIST COURSES

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course covers the core elements of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It is suitable and advisable for everyone, including members of the public. Candidates will learn how to perform CPR and emergency first aid on patients who have suffered cardiac arrest, strokes and other conditions.

How do I study the course?

This is a 2-hour stand alone course however all other elements listed below can be incorporated to meet client/ candidate needs.

Oxygen, aspiration and airway management

This course is designed to teach candidates how and when, to safely offer oxygen therapy and airway management in order to improve the condition or well-being of a casualty. They will learn how to set and administer correct dosage, efficiently insert an oro-pharyngeal airway and use a manual aspirator to clear the airway.

Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

 Candidates on this course will learn how to correctly prepare a casualty who has suffered a cardiac arrest and use an Automatic External Defibrillator machine in order to attempt to restore their heartbeat. The instructor will marry the use of an AED with BLS and demonstrate all relevant safety and maintenance points.

 How do I study the course?

This is a 4-hour course and as above, it can be combined with any of our other specialised units depending upon clients’ requirements.

Fire Safety Marshall

Candidates attending this course will gain a general awareness of how to assess and treat different types of fires, including selection and use of the correct fire fighting equipment. Dynamic risk assessments will be discussed and specific scenarios and dangers will be examined.

How do I study the course?

This is a half-day combination of study through theory, question and answers and hands-on practical. There is no assessment as this is an attendance course.

We can customise any of our first aid courses and place extra emphasis on any of the following:

asthma, anaphylaxis, burns, choking, diabetes, epilepsy, fainting, fractures, dislocations and soft-tissue injuries, head injuries, heart attacks, poison, resuscitation, shock, spinal injuries, strokes and wound management.

 In addition to the courses listed above, we can also provide Spinal Management, Emergency Medical Rescue at Height (EMRAH), Emergency Medical Technician – Basic level (EMT-B), Manual Handling and Safeguarding Children and Young People.

 

National Beach Lifeguard Qualification

This course which is operated in Cornwall by the National Lifeguard Training Centre is a professional qualification regulated by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). Successful trainees will be certified to work as lifeguards on British beaches as well as many other countries worldwide. This qualification also necessary to work as a surf instructor and is seen as a stepping stone to other careers in outdoor pursuits, rescue management and emergency services.

 

With two water sessions each day interspersed by first aid/ theory sessions this is an intense course. Prior to attending, it is strongly recommended that candidates are capable of swimming at least 100m on their front and 100m on their back. It is a prerequisite of the course that they are able to swim 400m in a swimming pool in less than eight minutes.

 

Candidates should also be familiar with a surf environment, be able to surface dive to a depth of two metres, tread water for two minutes and climb out of deep water unaided and without the use of steps.

NBLQ requalification £156 inc. vat. (This is a 3-day course that runs Wednesday – Friday, alongside any of the full NBLQ courses. Candidates must hold a valid NBLQ to attend).
